The race for pro bowl safety Antrel Rolle has begun. So far according to Brad Briggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Bears are in talks right now with him. Also in pursuit are the Giants, Dolphins and the Cardinals, who are trying to get him back. The Cardinals released Rolle so they would not have to pay him a 4 million dollar roster bonus and 8 million dollars in 2010.
The Giants have been known to not break the bank on safeties. Rolle has made it clear he is looking for 8 million a year and that may change depending on his demand. My guess is that the Giants will offer 4-6 million a year at the most. If Rolle can land in New York, it would be a huge boost to a secondary that performed very flat in 2009.
UPDATE: Sources indicate Antrel Rolle is scheduled to meet with the New York Giants Friday morning.
UPDATE: It looks like the Bears are out of the Antrel Rolle sweepstakes and it may come down to the Giants, Dolphins and maybe the Cardinals.
